“とんでもない事件だ。北九州市と福岡県苅田町にまたがる自動車メーカーの部品工場に爆発物が投げ込まれ、地面に穴が開いた。工場を建設した会社のトラブルとみられるが、問題はそのメーカーの対応。広報担当者は当初「事件については言えません」の一点張りだった。
ようやく数時間後に「再発防止を望む」とコメントした。後で聞くと、捜査の関係で極端に口をつぐんでしまったという。このメーカーは大手自動車会社の子会社で、被害者側ではある。しかし、工場の起工式が昨年開かれたときも非公開だった。式典風景を公道から写真に撮ろうとすると、建設会社の人や警察官から制止された。
ただ、企業の社会的責任がこれだけ求められている中、事件が起きれば十分な説明が必要なはずだ。メーカー名はこの欄では名指ししないが（各段落の頭文字がヒントです）、説明責任を考えてほしい。 （根井）
